Curl up with a book - Atomic Habits by James Clear
There's a little irony there that I photographed this book on my yoga mat. You remember my mat? The one i've had out all week to encourage me to prioritise my morning yoga... Well, how's that been going I hear you wonder? I woke up on day 2 with lower back pain that made it uncomfortable to walk let alone bend over to touch my toes. How annoying!
I found this book in the charity shop on my birthday (by which time I thankfully felt more comfortable). A few weeks ago I would have glanced right past it but I recognised the title from listening to the brilliant James talking to my favourite Mel Robbins on her podcast last month. James makes so much sense when he says we have to make change small, achievable and consistent. My hopes to integrate a 20 minute morning yoga routine every-single-day was too much of a stretch. I should have started smaller if I really hoped to stick to the plan. So I happily hold my hands up to my week of yoga aim fail and abandon it for now for a more realistic (and frankly more fun) ''dance to one song every single day''.
My biggest takeaway from the podcast was the question ...''what can you stick to on your worst day?'. Food for thought rather than giving ourselves such a hard time when we fail for being too ambitious. I look forward to sharing some of James's pearls of wisdom when I've read more of his book. |
